The Solution-Focused Approach at FKC in Sweden.

The philosophy behind the model builds upon the belief that all individuals have the resources and the power to:

  • Change their lives in the direction they desire.
  • Create their own solutions for problems and dilemmas.
  • A fundamental precept to the solution-focused model is that cooperation creates and generates solutions. In therapeutic conversations aimed at promoting change, what already works is emphasized in order to expand and develop these areas.

The different techniques typical of the model are useful in the work to define desired change and formulate goals. Develop-ment more often that not takes place in small steps, and small changes often lead to great changes.

Therefore, the setting up of small, definite, and measurable goals is a constructive and efficient approach.

Focusing on the goals of each individual, as well as on what already works satisfactorily in his or her eyes, becomes a fertile ground for initiating a positive process of change.

The Solution-focused model has been developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, at BFTC in Milwaukee, USA.

Important goals for us at FKC:

    • To respect and help everyone in accordance with their own desires and goals.
    • To work with solutions for the future by exploring and stimulation already existing resources and competence.
